The SAC Board of Directors (2026-2027)

Join SAC’s Board of Directors

Are you passionate about advancing the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology in Canada? Do you have leadership experience and a commitment to serving your professional community?

SAC is seeking dedicated and strategic thinkers to join its Board of Directors for the 2026 term. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the governance of SAC and help shape the future of the organization and the professions it represents.

2026 Board Vacancies

For the 2026 election cycle, SAC is seeking to fill the following positions:

  • One (1) vacancy for an audiologist
  • One (1) vacancy for a speech-language pathologist or audiologist
  • One (1) vacancy for Director-University
  • One (1) vacancy for a speech-language pathology or audiology student
Provincial and Territorial Representation
  • Due to current Board composition limits (maximum two Directors per province/territory), SAC is unable to accept applications from speech-language pathologists or audiologists residing in British Columbia, Manitoba, or Ontario for this election cycle.
  • The Director-University and Student applicants may apply from any province or territory.
Why Join the SAC Board?

By serving on SAC’s Board, you will:

  • play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of SAC;
  • advocate for and support the advancement of speech-language pathology and audiology in Canada;
  • collaborate with a diverse team of professionals committed to communication health; and
  • gain valuable leadership, governance, and policy experience.

SAC’s Board is a governance board, meaning directors focus on high-level strategic oversight rather than day-to-day operations. Directors bring diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences to ensure SAC effectively supports its members and the people they serve. They govern collectively and do not represent a specific province, employer, or interest group.

Board Composition and Term
  • The SAC Board consists of 10-16 directors, representing a diverse range of perspectives from across Canada.
  • Directors serve a three-year term, with the option to seek re-election for a second consecutive term.
  • The SAC Board values diverse voices and seeks members who reflect the breadth of SAC’s community, including individuals from various geographic regions, practice settings, and professional backgrounds.
Responsibilities & Expectations

As a director, you will:

  • attend and actively participate in four to five board meetings per year (a mix of virtual and in-person meetings);
  • fulfill fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and good faith, including managing real or perceived conflicts of interest;
  • provide strategic guidance and oversight of SAC’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities;
  • contribute to financial oversight, policy development, and risk management;
  • support and promote SAC’s advocacy and public awareness initiatives;
  • serve on at least one board committee, such as Governance, Finance, Nominations, or EDIA; and
  • ensure SAC remains accountable to its members and the public.
Time Commitment
  • Directors should expect to dedicate approximately 5-10 hours per month to board-related activities, including meeting preparation, committee work, and email responses.
  • Two virtual board meetings (2 hours) are held annually.
  • Two in-person board meetings (1.5 – 2 days) are typically held annually, with travel and accommodation costs covered by SAC.
  • Please note that that time commitment may increase during strategic planning cycles or major organizational initiatives.
Who Can Apply?

SAC encourages applications from members who:

  • have experience in leadership roles, governance, or advocacy;
  • are committed to SAC’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities;
  • possess strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; and
  • contribute perspectives that reflect geographic, professional, and demographic diversity.

We strongly encourage applications from individuals who identify as equity-deserving, work in underrepresented areas of practice, or have unique insights into the challenges and opportunities facing communication health professionals in Canada.

Compensation

SAC Board positions are voluntary and unpaid, but directors receive:

  • reimbursement for travel and accommodation costs for in-person meetings;
  • complimentary registration for the bi-annual conference; and
  • professional development opportunities in governance best practices.
