Become a Member or Associate

From free online professional development and journal access to targeted discount programs and ongoing advocacy work related to the professions, there are many great reasons to join SAC.

SAC Member and Associate Fees 2024

Membership Fees, whether paid in full or in installments, are non-refundable.

*Note: installment plans are not eligible for the Early Bird discount.

**A reminder as you renew, that as a member of OSLA on March 31, 2022, your SAC fees will be automatically subsidized for the following 3 years that it is being offered – 2023, 2024 and 2025. The subsidy amount that you receive is based on the membership type in which you renew in each membership year.

If you are registering as a full member, reduced hours member or new practitioner, and you practice or anticipate practicing in one of the provinces or territories listed in the table below, include the corresponding provincial/territorial fee with your payment.

SAC Member and Associate Categories

Members

Full Member

A professional who holds a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or audiology from a Canadian program. Internationally educated speech-language pathologists and audiologists are also welcome to join SAC. See Information for Internationally Educated Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

Reduced Hours Member

A professional who meets the membership requirements and works less than 800 hours in a given year  (i.e. Part-time, maternity/parental leave). 

(NOTE: 800 hours refers to any hours related to speech-language pathology or audiology, including management positions, instructing, clinical coordinators, researchers, etc.) 

Members will be required to complete an attestation.

New Practitioner

A professional, who holds a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or audiology from a Canadian program, in their first year of practice as a S-LP or audiologist.

International Member

A professional who meets the member requirements but lives outside of Canada.

Associates

Affiliate Associate

An individual who does not meet the criteria of any other membership category, but who desires access to SAC’s membership benefits. 

(NOTE: Affiliate associates are not entitled to SAC’s discounted rate on professional liability insurance with BMS.)

Communication Health Assistant Associate

A graduate of an approved Canadian educational program for communication health assistants in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. The educational program must include 200 hours of supervised clinical practicum.  See Academic Programs

Reduced Hours Communication Health Assistant Associate

A professional who meets communication health assistant requirements and works less than 800 hours in a given year (i.e. part-time, maternity/parental leave). 

(NOTE: 800 hours refers to any hours worked related to speech-language pathology or audiology, including management positions at hospitals, instructing, etc.)

 

Retired Associate membership is only available to existing SAC members.

Student Associate (S-LP or audiology program)

Students enrolled in professional speech-language pathology and/or audiology graduate programs, or speech-language pathologists and audiologists enrolled as full-time students in masters-level and/or doctoral-level studies related to the two disciplines. 

Student Associate (communication health assistant program)

Full-time student enrolled in a recognized Canadian communication health assistant program (in speech-language pathology and/or audiology).

Retired Associate

Retired Associate membership is only available to existing SAC members or associates who have retired from their profession and have no intention of re-entering the workforce practicing as a S-LP or audiologist.
