Update on Evidence-Based Approaches to Managing Acquired Language Disorders Across the Continuum of Care

This presentation is situated in the context of an evidence-based overview of recent theories and applied approaches to understanding and managing acquired language disorders in a variety of healthcare settings. This presentation will critically review newly developed: (a) assessment procedures for quantifying and qualifying linguistic symptoms and concomitant extra-linguistic disorders in adults with aphasia or other acquired language disorders, and (b) treatment procedures for remediating or compensating for these linguistic and related impairments.

  1. Identify recently developed standardized tests and informal procedures for assessing linguistic and related, extra-linguistic concomitant symptoms
  2. Describe recently developed direct and indirect therapy procedures for remediating or compensating for linguistic and related symptoms
