The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has announced important changes to The Hearing Aid Sales and Services Regulations. These changes aim to increase consumer protection by improving the quality and safety of hearing aid services.

The changes include:

  • Increasing the minimum educational standard for hearing instrument practitioners in SK (to be consistent with the requirements in most other provinces);
  • Increasing the hearing aid(s) trial period from 30 to 60 days;
  • Providing a transition period for practitioners affected by the new requirements to demonstrate that they possess the skills required to continue practicing (the Ministry of Health will offer a free, initial competency review for those who have not already completed an approved two-year diploma program).
