SAC is a member of the Health Action Lobby (HEAL), a coalition of 34 national health organizations representing more than 500,000 health providers and institutions dedicated to protecting and strengthening Canada's health system. In advance of the meeting early in the new year of the premiers in Victoria, BC we issued a:
- News Release for the HEAL commissioned Tholl-Bujold report;
- Letter to the Federal Minister of Health; and
- Letter to the Chair/Vice-Chair of the Council of the Federation.
In our letter to The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, we stressed how our coalition looks forward to discussing how we can work together to make Canada's health system more sustainable, improve accountability and system performance and get better results for Canadians.
To advance the dialogue, we released the report commissioned by HEAL entitled "Functional Federalism and the Future of Medicare in Canada". The report concluded that for Canada to rank among countries with the healthiest populations we need a broadly shared vision of health and health care, sustained leadership by the federal government, as well as action and accountability on the part of the provincial and territorial governments, health care providers and the public.
