- speech-language pathologists
This Session Pertains To:
- Adults (18-64)
Introductory (Assumes that the participant has little or no familiarity with the literature and professional practice within the areas covered.)
Fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallow (FEES) is one of two instrumental imaging procedures used for assessing dysphagia. It provides direct visualization of the larynx using a transnasal endoscope. FEES is often preferred over videofluoroscopy (VFSS) in terms of its portability, sensitivity in detecting evidence of micro-aspiration, and is better suited for use with certain clinical populations. S-LPs working with dysphagia should be aware of when and how to use FEES in their practice and be prepared to undertake the required training to ensure they are able to provide this assessment to their patients. This webinar will focus on an introduction to FEES, its role in dysphagia assessment, and how S-LPs can get started with training.
- How to determine need for instrumental assessment
- How to choose between FEES vs. VFSS
- To understand the basic FEES procedure and interpretation of laryngeal image
- To identify indications and contraindications for FEES
- To identify process for training in FEES for S-LP
This webinar is eligible for SAC CEEs.
