Presenter: Dave Gordey, PhD, Aud(C)

The Clinical Outcomes in Pediatric Audiology (COPA) is a working group of clinical and research audiologists in North America. They work together to understand the management paths for paediatric populations who have hearing differences for which these paths are not yet well-developed. We aim to compile and create evidence that will guide clinical management of special paediatric audiology populations, with a goal to share the knowledge with the broader clinical community.

In this presentation, project work will be shared in paediatric bone conduction fittings for infants and young children. Topics to be covered include audiologist decision and counseling strategies, parent perspectives on bone conduction device use for their children with unilateral conductive hearing loss, and the development of a clinical consensus document for fitting bone conduction devices on a soft headband to children.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe recommendations for selection and fitting of non-surgical bone conduction hearing devices for children.
  • Describe resources that assist parents’ decision-making when considering bone conduction hearing devices for their children.
  • Describe the counseling experiences of parents whose children were candidates for bone conduction hearing devices.
