The presentation will examine the key factors that contribute to the development of a large-scale, effective and efficient Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) program. There are a large variety of UNHS programs across North America and around the world, many of which grew out of small-scale, regional programs. Few programs are truly effective, however, in their ability to deliver required services efficiently and in a manner accountable to funders.  Evaluation of successful programs shows the need to establish key components as a basis for program development.  We will discuss these components along with the dynamic process of program evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to understand the basics of planning and implementing an effective and efficient Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program.
