Intended audience: Audiologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, audiology assistants, speech-lanuage pathology assistants, speech and hearing assistants, students

Level: Introductory (Assumes that the participant has little or no familiarity with the literature and professional practice within the areas covered.)

Clinical competence is essential to the quality of speech-language pathology and audiology services. New national competency profiles specify the essential entry-to-practice competencies required in the professions. Similarly, competency-based frameworks have become the trend in health sciences education.

As a result, the Canadian Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education are developing the Canadian Assessment of Clinical Competence (ACC-SLP/AUD) to assess student performance in clinical placements for all Canadian universities.

At the conclusion of this interactive webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the trend towards competency-based education
  • Explain the concepts of competency-based assessment
  • Apply competency-based assessment principles using examples from the new national student performance assessment tool
