Following this presentation, S-LPs, communication health assistants and students who are interested in early literacy will be able to:
- define emergent literacy and be able to briefly discuss relations between core oral and written language skills;
- state what it means in research to be “at-risk for reading-related learning disabilities”;
- identify three on-going research issues related to early identification of risk; and
- describe three prevention strategies that can be used to promote emergent literacy in the classroom, in therapy and at home.
