The traditional adverse outcomes of the preterm infant are widely published (Alyward, 2005). However, less is known regarding the presence of minor morbidities in premature children, even though a higher prevalence has been reported in the literature (Edwards et al., 2011). This seminar will provide an introduction to prematurity and co-occurring problems and diagnoses. The short- and long-term complications associated with prematurity will be discussed. Preliminary data from studies conducted with preschool (n = 96) and school-aged children (n = 36) born in Ontario will be presented. Results in the following domains will also be presented: receptive and expressive language, narration, attention, memory and executive functioning.
