Voice therapy can be used with individuals with a wide variety of voice disorders. Voice dysfunction is typically the result of a complex interaction of variables, including lifestyle, emotional, reflux and technique factors, and sometimes the clinical picture is complicated by an anatomical or disease manifestation. Client-centered voice therapy programs take these variables into account to determine priorities for management and the most appropriate indirect and/or direct approaches for an individual. This workshop will discuss rationales and indications for indirect and direct voice therapy approaches. It will also describe and demonstrate popular comprehensive and targeted direct therapy approaches, so that participants can practice techniques during the presentation.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- use a multidisciplinary model to determine treatment priorities for individuals with voice dysfunction;
- identify indications for comprehensive or targeted voice therapy approaches; and
- demonstrate a variety of techniques used in direct voice therapy.
