In this webinar, we share our experience working as, training, and supervising communication health assistants. We briefly review current communication health assistant educational programs to emphasize their scope of practice, clinical skills, and competencies that support enriched collaboration with speech-language pathologists and audiologists. We review the 4-Handed Model originally published by the Ontario Association of Speech-Language and Audiology (OSLA) in 2002 to highlight how the virtual world has augmented the way collaboration can happen, leading to quality care and efficient supervision for speech, language and hearing services in 2022 and beyond.
Participants will be able to
- understand the role of communication health assistants in supporting speech-language pathologists and audiologists;
- understand the scope of practice of support personnel such as communication health assistants and the respective training programs;
- introduce various methods for collaboration and supervision; and
- review the use of virtual care as a mode of supervision and collaboration.
