Exam Instructions

  • Candidates must bring their admission letter and photo identification (e.g., driver's license, student card or passport) to the exam site. This information is required for admittance into the exam.
  • Bottled water is permitted. No other food or beverage is permitted in the exam room. 
  • It is recommended to dress in layers as exam room temperatures may vary.

During the exam, candidates:

  • Must mark ALL answers on the answer sheet. (No extra time will be given to record or transfer answers.)
  • Are prohibited from removing any exam materials (exam booklet, answer sheet) from the exam room.
  • Have two hours to complete Booklet 1. (Once completed, candidates must hand in their exam booklet and answer sheet.)
  • Must leave the room after completing Booklet 1 and return in time to register for Booklet 2.
  • Must verify the time they are to return to start Booklet 2.
  • Have two hours to complete Booklet 2. (Once completed, candidates must hand in their exam materials (exam booklet, answer sheet, admission letter and candidate ID card)).
  • Can complete the evaluation form once they have completed Booklet 2 and have handed in all materials to the invigilator.
  • Will not be permitted to return to the exam room once they submit their evaluation form.

Approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of Booklet 1, the invigilator will:

  • Open the exam room.
  • Register candidates by checking all photo ID and admission letters.
  • Supply pencils with erasers. (Do not use pens.)

Approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of Booklet 1, the invigilator will:

  • Distribute exam booklets and answer sheets. Do NOT open the test booklet until instructed to do so.
    • Scratch paper is not allowed, use exam booklet for notes.
  • Provide instructions on how to fill out exam booklet and answer sheet.

Approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of Booklet 2, the invigilator will:

  • Check all photo ID against the admission letters (if not previously done for this session).
  • Distribute exam booklets and answer sheets. Do NOT open the test booklet until instructed to do so.
  • Provide  instructions on how to fill out exam the booklet and answer sheet.

Copies of exam booklets in both official languages:

  • Only those candidates who requested EN and FR versions of the exam in their application are allowed to have access to a second version of the exam (this is indicated on the admission letter).
  • You may not change your language preference on the day of the examination.
  • Use of the secondary language version is for verification of wording only. You will run out of time if you check every question. (No additional time allowed.)
  • Speech-language pathology candidates should note that, given the structural differences between English and French (e.g. in phonology and grammar), the content of some questions might not be identical in the two languages. While official translators familiar with the professions are used in the examination development, not all questions are a direct translation.
  • At the end of each of the two examination periods, candidates must return both booklets to the invigilator.

Rules of conduct for exam candidates:

  • No person will be allowed in the exam room during the exam except the exam candidate(s) and the invigilator(s).
  • Backpacks, bags, notes, books, papers, radios, tape-recorders, calculators, cell phones or cameras brought into the exam room must be deposited with the invigilator before the exam begins. (All cell phones must be turned off.)
  • Exam candidates who arrive after the start of the exam may be permitted to enter the exam room up to 30 minutes after the start of the exam. This is at the discretion of the invigilator.
  • While the exam is in progress, exam candidates are prohibited from communicating with each other in any manner whatsoever.
  • Exam candidates are not permitted to ask questions of the invigilators, except in cases of supposed errors in exam questions, illegible, missing, or damaged material.
  • Every candidate must identify his/her answer sheet with his/her name and candidate number (found on the candidate ID card).
  • If a candidate must leave the room temporarily during the exam his/her exam materials must be secured against inspection by other candidates.
  • If a candidate must withdraw permanently before the completion of an exam, his/her exam materials must be surrendered to the invigilator and returned to the marking authority with a note of explanation.
  • Exam books and all other exam materials must NOT be removed from the exam room by the exam candidates.
  • Exam candidates must not destroy or damage any exam materials and MUST hand in all exam materials to the invigilator at the end each session.
  • Candidates must comply with all instructions issued by the invigilator for the conduct of the exam.
  • Any candidate suspected of having committed an infraction against these rules of conduct will be reported by the invigilator to the marking authority and to the SAC office. The answer sheets of candidates suspected of having committed an infraction may be subjected to statistical analysis as a means of determining whether he/she has had access to the exam booklets before the exams or communicated with other candidates during the exam. The SAC Standards Advisory Committee may decide that credit for the exam will not be given.
