Speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) are frequently called upon to assess the language abilities of bilingual children, which can be a difficult task given the many practical constraints. Moreover, a number of factors must be taken into account when interpreting this clinical data. In this seminar, we review important concepts linked to bilingualism and their impact on language development. Evidence-based strategies that can be used when assessing bilingual individuals will be discussed, and case studies will be presented. The goal of this presentation is to ensure that S-LPs gain the knowledge and tools required to successfully and accurately assess bilingual clients with confidence.
