Stuttering Support Strategies – 2 Part Series (2020)

This two-part presentation will review the etiology of developmental stuttering and discuss how stuttering varies under different speaking situations. Attendees will be able to describe behaviours of stuttering to aid in identification and the factors that impact the probability to stutter. Evidence-based therapy approaches for children, teens and adults and concrete strategies on how to support clients and their families in treatment and maintenance will be discussed. Attendees will observe instructors modeling: fluency shaping strategies, judging stuttering severity, providing effective feedback, praising fluent speech and sequencing practice tasks for clients to facilitate success. This presentation is geared towards Communication Health Assistants but S-LPs are also welcome.
