SAC’s position paper affirming the critical role that speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) play in supporting literacy development across Canadian educational contexts will be presented.
Participants will examine how S-LPs contribute to school-based literacy support across a multi-tiered system of services, including prevention, assessment, intervention, consultation, and professional development. Emphasis will be placed on collaborative practices between S-LPs, educators, and other professionals to ensure equitable, evidence-based instruction and support for all learners — especially those from marginalized, multilingual, or neurodiverse backgrounds.
Upon viewing the webinar, attendees will:
- understand the role of SLPs in educational settings with respect to literacy;
- explore the role of SLPs within Multi-Tiered System Support;
- recognize and promote collaborative practices in literacy support;
- advocate for inclusive policies and adequate human resources to support literacy development;
- invest in professional development for literacy support;
- enhance literacy outcomes through S-LP expertise.
