This presentation is situated in the context of a brief, evidence-based overview of recent theories and applied approaches to understanding and managing acquired language disorders in various healthcare settings. This presentation critically reviews newly developed assessment procedures for quantifying and qualifying linguistic symptoms and concomitant extra-linguistic disorders in adults with aphasia or other acquired language disorders.

Concerning acquired language disorders, participants will be able to:
- identify recently developed standardized tests and informal procedures for assessing language abilities; and
- identify recently developed standardized tests and informal procedures for assessing extra-linguistic symptoms that commonly co-occur with acquired language disorders.
