This 45-minute presentation with a 10 to 15-minute Q & A is designed to provide communication health professionals with a basic understanding of the practice of mindfulness and mindfulness meditation, dispelling common misconceptions about the practice. Participants will be given a brief history of the practice, including how a spiritual practice from the east has become a clinical trend and a commodity in the west. Research on the use of mindfulness, meditation and cognitive behaviour therapy will also be discussed, including an overview of a tri-centre study which focused on people with acquired brain Injury.
