Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opportunity for a Speech-Language Therapist (S-LP) to join our team with experiences in developmental and social/communication services to infants and children enrolled in our Neonatal Follow Up Clinic. The SLP will complete developmental and language/communication-based assessments, run group interventions and programming. The S-LP will participate in quality improvement initiatives, evaluative processes that include the use of standardized and valid outcome measures, report writing, and research activities.
Summary of Duties
- Assessment of language and communication using various developmental assessments including the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, Preschool Speech and Language
- Scales and other language-based developmental assessments.
- Development and implementation of a social communication program for toddlers with an emphasis on parental coaching using techniques such as Hanen’s More Than Words
- Program, Project ImPACT, Early Start Denver Model or other naturalistic strategies.
- Development and implementation of programs for school-aged children with focus on early literacy skills, social thinking curriculum or other social communication strategies
- Experience with school age assessment with focus on learning, language and literacy such as, The Kauffman Brief Intelligence Test.
- Experience with researching the efficacy of parent coaching programs.
- Acting as a resource to NICU and Neonatal Follow Up Clinic staff.
- Making appropriate referrals to and collaborating with other services and agencies.
- Maintaining patient records and workload measurement in accordance with facility and professional standards.
- Participating in clinical and interprofessional education.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current CASLPO registration is required.
- Successful completion of a recognized post-secondary program in Speech and Language Pathology.
- Experience with providing assessments, consultation and therapy to infants, toddlers and children, especially those who have been in an NICU.
- Demonstrated familiarity with current literature, issues and trends of practice.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability work collaboratively as a member of interprofessional teams.
- Experience with program development.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education.
