The Speech Language Pathologist (S-LP) is a clinical professional position, within the Student Services Division of the Public Schools Branch, which provides assessment, treatment and consultation for students with communication difficulties.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• providing assessment, consultation, and direct therapy for students with deficits in speech, language, literacy development, and complex communication needs (e.g. AAC);
• collaborating with both Public Schools Branch-based staff and school-based student services teams to provide an interdisciplinary approach to service delivery;
• consulting with teachers and other professionals and paraprofessionals to facilitate program planning and implementation;
• creation of program materials as required for student school and home programs (e.g. visuals, communication books, and other low-tech AAC options);
• providing assessment, recommendations, and training regarding high-tech AAC devices, referral to and consultation with regional AAC centres, and support to access funding from AccessAbility Supports;
• consultation with parents to share assessment results and to facilitate program planning through case conferences, IEP meetings and/or direct therapy;
• providing professional development in the area of language and literacy, as needed; and
• other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Applicants must be a member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Prince Edward Island (CASLPPEI).
• knowledge of best practices in the field of speech, language and literacy development for school-aged children
• training and experience in supporting AAC needs
• excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams of professionals and paraprofessionals
• Applicants must be willing to travel to various assigned schools as needed and have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check before beginning employment.

Other Qualifications

• Bilingual capacity and ability to deliver services in French is an asset.
• Experience in the field of Education is considered an asset.
