Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides assessment of assigned clients and develops and implements individual and group speech language pathology therapy programs. The Speech-Language Pathologist is accountable for maintaining the Standards of Practice and Ethics of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario. The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide clinical education and experience for allied health students and will participate in formal teaching and research in conjunction with Queen’s University or other approved educational institutions. As a member of the clinical team, the Speech-Language Pathologist will participate in discipline-specific and inter-professional activities that are directed towards a client-centered environment and that contribute to quality, operational efficiency, professional and program development.
Role Responsibilities
- Participates in speech-language pathology education for clients, families, and caregivers
- Utilizes evidence-based and best practice
- Utilizes outcome measures to guide clinical decision-making
- Reviews medical referrals and conducts chart reviews
- Conducts assessments and evaluation
- Identifies and implements treatment to achieve client goals
- Communicates effectively with the client and all stakeholders involved in their care regarding plan of care and progress
- Participates in planning, implementing and evaluating speech language programs and service delivery systems
- Participates in day-to-day decision-making, solution-finding regarding client care with the inter-professional team
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a recognized university
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
- Experience in specified area of practice preferred
- Experience in student supervision an asset
