Position Summary
Pacekids is currently seeking Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) with experience working with children with diverse needs to deliver our Early Childhood Services (ECS) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) programs. These are full-time (37.5 hours/week) positions that involve planning and coaching of speech and language, communication, and feeding/swallowing programming that meets the unique needs of the children and families with whom they work.
The ECS SLP is responsible for the assessment and treatment of preschool and kindergarten-aged children within the South ECS school program (23 Sunpark Drive SE Calgary). This is a temporary position (12-15 months) that will work on weekdays from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
The FSCD SLP is responsible for the assessment and treatment of preschool and school-aged children within the FSCD program that involves working with families via in person (in home or on site) and virtual visits. This is a permanent position that requires availability on weekdays and weeknight evenings until 6:00pm, as well as a valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to drive to various parts of the city of Calgary (compensated for mileage).
Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Developing and coaching of speech and language treatment programming
- Conducting screenings and assessments of children using formal and informal speech and language measures
- Developing functional goals and plans that promote child development and parent education
- Monitoring and updating program plans and participating in meetings with the interdisciplinary team and families
- Collaborating with families and team members to target goals in a variety of settings
- Providing assessment, treatment, and/or session summary reports and maintaining documentation standards of professional college
- Providing education and training to Pacekids’ staff
- Maintaining and managing a caseload
Core competencies and qualifications:
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
- Registered member, in good standing, with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA), or in the process of registering
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the profession and maintain standards of practice for the profession
- Current professional liability insurance – updated annually
- Experience working with children with diverse needs, including experience working with children with Autism
- Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, with an emphasis on self-initiative, patience, maturity, and tact
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise with families and other professionals in fostering a team atmosphere
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families, and staff
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Flexibility is essential given the variety of children’s abilities, family needs, and conditions
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-Level C certification is required for our ECS program only; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
- Clearance from a Criminal Record check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, current within the last six months; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
- Clearance from a Child Intervention Record Check, current within the last year; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
