Position

The Language Express Preschool Speech and Language Program has employment opportunities for Speech-Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorders Assistants.  

Both full-time and part-time positions are available.  Successful applicants will be employed by Language Express’ lead agency, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, or by one of its partner agencies, ConnectWell Community Health or the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.   

Location and Hours of Work:     

Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, or Brockville.  

Hours of work will be developed in collaboration with the successful candidate to ensure a healthy work-life balance. A schedule of work will be based on the organization’s hours of operation and program requirements and may include some evenings. 

Description

The Speech Language Pathologist provides assessments and a range of interventions to preschool children with speech and language delays/disorders and promotes the early identification of communication disorders in preschool children.

Under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist, the Communicative Disorders Assistant provides a range of interventions to preschool children with speech and language delays/disorders.  Both professions facilitate parent/caregiver participation and a parent training treatment approach to promote the development of early communication skills. 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or Equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology OR College Graduate 
  • Certificate in a Communicative Disorders Assistant Program;  
  • Current registration with the College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of 
  • Ontario (SLPs only).  Mentorship for Initial Practice Registrants is available; 
  • Demonstrated experience with a range of preschool clients with communication needs and their families, including children with developmental delays and Autism Spectrum Disorders;  
  • Experience working with clients and their families in groups and individually, providing parent training and consultation, and giving presentations; 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team; 
  • Demonstrated experience with telepractice approaches to intervention; 
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, flexibility, leadership and decision-making skills; 
  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, with the capacity to relate to clients of different needs, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
  • Up to date immunizations, in accordance with agency policy; 
  • Vulnerable sectors criminal record check; 
  • A valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and proof of insurance. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • SLPs: Certification in Hanen’s “It Takes Two to Talk,” “More Than Words” and “Target Word;” 
  • CDAs: Certification in Hanen’s “SPARK Communication” and “4 I’s to Socialize”;   Experience with Augmentative /Alternative Communication systems; 
  • For SLPs, experience supervising Communicative Disorders Assistants.
