Advocacy Priorities

What is Government Relations?

In our Government Relations work, SAC aims to broadly influence all areas of governance as it relates to public policy, programs and the government’s budgetary priorities. Our work to influence and communicate with government decision-makers aims to find win-win outcomes that satisfy the goals and objectives we set out on our annual government relations plans.

With more than 7,000 members across the county, our numbers do the talking. As the only national organization passionately supporting and representing speech-language pathologists, audiologists and communication health assistants inclusively, we are able to advocate effectively and fiercely for you, bringing a stronger voice to negotiations, advocacy and policy discussions.

Our national mandate means that our efforts to raise the profile of your profession are heard across the country. We bring the voices of our members and associates to key decision makers and relevant stakeholders working on issues that impact our professions.

SAC prepares a yearly government relations plan that is approved by the SAC board of directors. Our plan is based on issues important to our members that are within federal mandates. We listen to the concerns of our members while keeping tabs on the pulse of emerging federal issues. We also work closely with our Ontario , Saskatchewan, and Alberta branches to share intel, resources, and support.

  • Health Action Lobby (HEAL)
  • Extended Healthcare Professions Coalition (EHPC)
  • Mental Health Table for Regulated Health Professionals (MHT)
  • Canadian Coalition for Public Health in the 21st Century (CCPH21)
  • Canadian Infant Hearing Task Force
  • International Communication Project

SAC shares advocacy updates in our monthly SAC Insider. Be sure to read monthly about progress on our advocacy priorities.
